THE HISTORY OF THE CHAIR

The Chair of Philosophy was founded in 1965. Assistant-professor M. D. Manina was the first to be appointed to the Chair. In 1953 she became a holder of Candidate of Philosophical Sciences degree  (Ph.D.) having had her thesis maintained in Leningrad State University.

In the 60s the Chair obtained a badly needed increase in  a highly qualified academic staff. The scientific  training of the specialists started by attending Postgraduate Courses which had eventuated in increasing of the number of staff members who attained advanced degrees. Candidates of the Philosophical Sciences Yu. S. Roschupkin, N. A. Filatov, G. A. Bondareva, F. F. Golikov were among them. Thus teaching staff underwent some deep changes showing by the early 70s seven teachers gained academic degrees per sixteen teachers without the degrees if to compare with two of the staff with academic titles in 1968.

Members of staff saw their main goal in providing a constantly growing theory and methodology level of educational process, in rationalization of teaching and scientific resources. 

Led by Candidate of the Philosophical Sciences (Ph.D.) N. A. Filatov who hold the Chair in the 70s the teaching staff outlined their scientific interests enjoying ever progressing significance of their activity in educational and scientific field.

In the 80s Candidate of the Philosophical Sciences (Ph.D.), assistant-professor F. F. Golikov occupied the Chair starting his work from recruiting young talented staff to increase professional teaching level and to obtain a major advance in research activities.

In 1990 Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.) O. S. Soina was appointed to the Chair. Under her leadership the Chair found itself to be an officially recognized scientific and pedagogical school carrying out research work in the field of moral, culture and education. Degree courses in three philosophical fields were established for postgraduates: 09.00.01 - Ontology and the Theory of Knowledge; 09.00.05 - Ethics; 09.00.11 - Social Philosophy.

Since 2005 the Chair has been led by Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.) Professor V. Sh. Sabirov.

Full Professors O. S. Soina, V. Sh. Sabirov are represented as scientific personalities in the Philosophers of Russia of the XIX-XX Centuries. Biographies, Ideas, Works (Encyclopedia).

From 1995 to 2009 Professor O. S. Soina's articles on ethical problems and on Russian philosophical tradition were published in Chelovek magazine (the Organ of Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences), and in Voskresenie - New Russia.  In 1995 her monograph Phenomenon of Russian Moralization was published by Nauka Publishing House.

In 1997-2009 Professor V. Sh. Sabirov wrote a stream of articles on ethics, hermeneutics, thanatology, philosophy of education, philosophy of history and philosophy of culture problems for leading Russian academic periodicals  (Bezin lug, Roman-gazeta XXI vek, Chelovek, Culture Studies questions) and for Siberian teacher  journal. His articles Hope, Despair, Disregard of Self, Optimism, Pessimism were included into the second volume of Russian Pedagogical Encyclopedia (1999).

Professor O. S. Soina and Professor V. Sh. Sabirov are the joint authors of such scientific works as: Points of View on Leo Tolstoy Ideas on Nonviolent Resistance (team-work monograph), published in 2002 by the Ural State University Press, Reading Dostoevsky (the experience of philosophical reflection on Dostoevsky's works), Novosibirsk Nauka Press, 2005.

Another two monographs of the authors are: The Salivation Idea in Russian Philosophical Tradition, Saint Petersburg 2010, Ethics and Human Morals, Petersburg, 2010. A number of text-books were also published by the Professors:  Fundamentals of Philosophy, Novosibirsk NGASU Press, 2004; Elementary Course of Philosophy, Moscow Gardariki Press, 2006; Historical and Theoretical Course of Ethics ( two volumes), Novosibirsk NGASU Press, 2008-2009; Philosophy: Basic Course, Novosibirsk, NGASU, The Course of Philosophy for Engineering Students, Novosibirsk, NGASU Press, 2011, Fundamentals of Philosophy, Moscow, Flinta-Nauka Press, 2012.

In 2000, 2002, 2009 the Chair gained research grants from the Department of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, in 2009, 2010, 2012 RFBR  grants were obtained to hold national scientific conferences on problems of extremism. Since 2002  academic degrees have been awarded to twelve postgraduates under the supervision of Professors V. Sh. Sabirov and O. S. Soina.

The staff together with such educational courses as 'Philosophy' and 'Cultural Studies' for students and 'History and Philosophy of Science', 'History of Philosophy' and 'Ethics' courses for postgraduate students have also prepared MA and MSc advanced courses: 'Philosophical Aspects of Science and Engineering', 'Methodology of Scientific Work'; expert teachers of the chair have worked out and run many elective courses as well.

At present the staff work in close collaboration with the Institute of Philosophy of Russian Academy of Sciences, the Chair is also engaged in wide-ranging professional and scientific links and interactions with the chairs of philosophy, ethics and culture studies of different higher education institutions in Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Petersburg, Moscow. The teachers of the chair show excellence in teaching and research. 

By the joint effort of the staff School of Thought (the Humanitarian Knowledge Almanac) has been publishing (Editor - Professor V. Sh. Sabirov).

In 2011 Scientific and Educational Centre Theoretical and Applied Aspects of Ethical and Humanities Researchers was established.
